This film about vengeance and simpler times where gunshots were a common language to be spoken looks fantastic. Jamie Foxx, playing the title role of Django, has a swagger (with a hard “r”) about him that works well, even when he sports an Austin Powers suit in the trailer he looks cool. Leonardo DiCaprio as Calvin Candie looks amazing, and from what little we see in the trailer, he looks like he’ll make a juicy villain, and he actually looks like he’s having fun in the role instead of trying to seriously chase that Oscar gold. Christoph Waltz also looks solid as the bounty hunter that trains Django in the way of the gun.
Synopsis (IMDB): With the help of his mentor, a slave-turned-bounty hunter sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner.
From the buzz that’s going around, this may be Quentin Tarantino’s best screenplay yet. The lines in the trailer are already quote-worthy. The ending to the trailer was just too cool, as Tarantino gives Django a little Bond moment: “Django. The D is silent.”
December 25, 2012 can’t come soon enough. I might have to shoot a man or two.
