Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

December 03, 2011 By Mike B

There’s a new film coming out that is a based on the Grimm folklore of Hansel and Gretel, but it’s a brand new bag of sorts, as the duo is all grown up and hunting witches! Tommy Wirkola is the director of choice  for Hansel and Gretel:Witch Huntersfor , and Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton are the leads.

The title says it all, as the premise of the story is that Hansel and Gretel are all grown up and have become vengeful murderers of wrinkly-faced old women that eat children. According to Gemma Arterton in an interview with EW, the tone is going to be tongue-in-cheek with a hint of a Tarantino vibe.

Arterton says that Hansel and Gretel were forced to kill at an early age, helping them grow up real quick. My imagination has them all grown up as bad-ass vigilantes, kicking old wrinkly butt and taking names. This could be a lot of fun, but the picture gives off a Van Helsing vibe (yuck) so I’m eager to see the trailer. The film is set to open on March 2, 2012.
