Tim Burton flexes his loves for Disney films again, looking to re-make another classic: Pinocchio. Burton, with Warner Brothers, is looking to make this film from the perspective of Gepetto, the lovable inventor that yearns for a son. Burton and company are looking at Robert Downey Jr. to play Gepetto.
At least Burton isn’t working with Johnny Depp again (they’re great together, but they need a break). The script was written by Bryan Fuller of Pushing Daisies, and supposedly it’s highly regarded. The film will have Gepetto following in Pinocchio’s adventures. If Downey Jr. and Burton’s schedules work, filming will begin as soon as possible.
The idea of Downey Jr. playing Gepetto sounds interesting enough, and Burton can definitely make it a compelling film, but hopefully he washes off what he did wrong in Alice in Wonderland, and captures some fairy tale magic like in one of his better films, Big Fish.
