Emma Watson to Star in Guillermo Del Toro’s Beauty and the Beast

February 14, 2012 By Mike B

Guillermo Del Toro, director of Hellboy and Pans Labyrinth, announced that he’s planning to direct a Beauty and the Beast film starring Emma Watson (Harry Potter); Andrew Davis will be writing the script.

Del Toro has an amazing visual touch, and he’s had practice as Pans Labyrinth is a fairy tale for grown-ups, so his take on Beauty and the Beast may have that same dark style. Christopher Gans (Brotherhood of the Wolf) is also doing a Beauty and the Beast project, and he’s planning to keep it close to the Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve tale.

Watson will make for an amazing Belle, and Del Toro is pretty much the perfect director for a mature fairy tale story. Recently, there already has been a film released that played out like a modern day Beauty and the Beast, called Beastly, starring Vanessa Anne Hudgens. From the looks of it, Del Toro’s Beauty and the Beast vs. Beastly will be equivalent to Daniel Day-Lewis vs. Keanu Reeves.
