Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell in Burt Wonderstone

January 23, 2012 By Mike B

Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell will be starring in a new comedy flick called Burt Wonderstone, a film about rival magicians. It pretty much sounds like a comedic version of Prestige. Joining the two comedy giants are Olivia Wilde, James Gandolfini and Steve Buscemi.

The two have been shooting in Las Vegas, and a few set pics have been released. Jim Carrey is decked out in what seems to be a Criss Angel Mind Freak inspired wardrobe, and Carrey definitely has what it takes to be a Mind Freak. Steve Carrell looks more like he came out of a Siegfried and Roy tiger show. So it seems to be an old-school magician versus a more hip, modern magician, and the vibe from the pictures seems great.

Besides I Love You Phillip Morris, Carrey hasn’t had a project worthy of his talents in the last few years or so, and his last film was the mediocre Mr. Popper’s Penguins. This film looks like a return to form for the funnyman. On the other hand Steve Carrell has been in Crazy, Stupid, Love, Despicable Me and Date Night in the past few years, upstaging Carrey’s recent work with ease. The film will hit theaters some time in 2013.
