Michael K. Williams of The Wire to Play Ol Dirty Bastard in Biopic

March 23, 2012 By Mike B

Michael K. Williams, aka Omar from the Wire, will be playing Russell Jones aka Ol’ Dirty Bastard of the Wu-Tang Clan. How perfect is that Hip-Hop heads?!

Joaquin Baca-Asay (who?) will be directing the project. Baca-Asay was the cinematographer of We Own the Night and Jay-Z’s  “99 Problems” video. Right. At least they locked in Williams to play the lead role. The film will be based on the finals years of ODB’s erratic life, and it will be called Dirty White Boy.

The film will tell the story of an odd friendship between the Wu-Tang Clan co-founder and Jarred Weisfeld, a young VH1 production assistant who became ODB’s manager while he was serving a 3 year prison sentence. The film will show how the two came up with an unlikely comeback for ODB, and how it was cut short in 2004 by a drug overdose.

No one has been chosen for Weisfeld’s role yet, but let’s hope it doesn’t go to Shia Labeouf. Although Williams is 45 years of age, he still has the acting chops and he doesn’t really look his age. The question is, can he capture the eccentric and insane style of ODB? Shimmy shimmy ya!
