Will Ferrell in Casa de mi Padre

December 07, 2011 By Mike B

Will Ferrell’s latest project, Casa de mi Padre, will mark his Spanish-language debut. Co-starring with Ferrell will be Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna, Nick Offerman, Genesis Rodriguez, and Efren Ramirez. The plot: two brothers attempt to save their father’s ranch and somehow end up in  a war with a local drug kingpin.

There was a trailer for this Ferrell comedy some time ago, but it was pulled by the uploader, although I did track down a decent version of the trailer. The release date is set for March 16, 2012 and the marketing gears have started up again. Perhaps they weren’t too confident about releasing a Spanish-language comedy, as a good chunk of American viewers hate subtitles (“I don’t want to read a movie!”).

The film has a Desperado type of feel and it looks like an interesting project, swaying away a bit from the typical Ferrell comedy. It looks like those of us that don’t mind subtitles are in for a good laugh. Maybe Ferrell can dub over his own voice in English for those who whine about  the subtitles.
